چکیده

This paper gives a brief review of phase transition far from equilibrium, especially the universality classes of two main classes of non-equilibrium phase transitions. It also briefly point out the current conditions of the experimental study.

Dynamics of Symmetry Breaking out of Equilibrium: from Condensed Matter to Qcd and the Early Universe∗

The dynamics of symmetry breaking during out of equilibrium phase transitions is a topic of great importance in many disciplines, from condensed matter to particle physics and early Universe cosmology with definite experimental impact. In these notes we provide a summary of the relevant aspects of the dynamics of symmetry breaking in many different fields with emphasis on the experimental reali...

Formation of a metastable phase due to the presence of impurities.

Phase transitions into a new phase that is itself metastable are common; instead of the equilibrium phase nucleating, a metastable phase does so. When this occurs the system is sometimes said to be obeying Ostwald's rule. We show how this can happen when there are impurities present that reduce the barrier to heterogeneous nucleation of the metastable phase. We do so by studying a Potts lattice...

Hard-body models of bulk liquid crystals.

Hard models for particle interactions have played a crucial role in the understanding of the structure of condensed matter. In particular, they help to explain the formation of oriented phases in liquids made of anisotropic molecules or colloidal particles and continue to be of great interest in the formulation of theories for liquids in bulk, near interfaces and in biophysical environments. Ha...

Kibble-Zurek scaling and string-net coarsening in topologically ordered systems.

We consider the non-equilibrium dynamics of topologically ordered systems driven across a continuous phase transition into proximate phases with no, or reduced, topological order. This dynamics exhibits scaling in the spirit of Kibble and Zurek but now without the presence of symmetry breaking and a local order parameter. The late stages of the process are seen to exhibit a slow, coarsening dyn...

Non-equilibrium Phase Transitions in Condensed Matter and Cosmology: Spinodal

These lectures address the dynamics of phase ordering out of equilibrium in condensed matter and in quantum field theory in cosmological settings, emphasizing their similarities and differences. In condensed matter we describe the phenomenological approach based on the Time Dependent GinzburgLandau (TDGL) description. After a general discussion of the main experimental and theoretical features ...
